Vienna Prater, 28th May 2006

The twelfth Self-Transcendence 100 km race was this year a big challenge for runners as for helpers. It was raining for 8 hours without break, which didn't change the achievements and great atmosphere. 56 single starters and 13 relays provided for a record of participants.

In absence of Markus Thalmann, the serial winner of the last years, Gerald Fabianek confirmed his role as a favourite and won undisputed in 7:52:58 ahead of Helfried Brunner (8:44:31) and Harald Wurm (8:44:43). Astonishing was the ease and regularity of the Austrian champion of the 6 hour race. Fabianek runs for the 1st Austrian Ultrarun Team. Brunner, Wurm and Markus Pfister ensured suspence until the end. After all between the second and fourth place were only 23 seconds!
Among the woman's the first prize went to Slovenia: Tatjana Jauk from Maribor won in 10:14:41 followed by Karin Jakubek, who could impress in her first ultra race. A comeback on the victors platform was celebrated by Nidhruvi Zimmermann of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team after a long injury period with 11:02:47.

The predominant victory of last year has been repeated by the men's relay of the SCMT Graz. Praban Felgitscher, Andreas Tscherne and Franz Genser run despite of the rain a high pace and won in 6:41:34 ahead of the relay of the SV Marswiese in 7:16:30.

Winner in the woman's relay was the section from Linz of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Teams in 10:36:29. The fastest mixed relay was the Sykora family in 8:34:14.

We thank all participants and helpers and look forward to the 100 km race of 2007.
